Our Therapists

We use techniques from various theoretical perspectives mainly cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. We attend continuing education workshops frequently to ensure we are providing our clients with the best treatment possible.

Vanessa Parry Zoog, MSW, LCSW

.

Vanessa Parry Zoog, LCSW, was born and raised in Burlington County and graduated from Moorestown High School. She left South Jersey to attend the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and after receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, she got married and returned to the area with her husband to be close to both of their families. Vanessa obtained a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and currently lives in Cinnaminson where she and her husband can raise their nine-year-son and 4-year-old daughter in close proximity to both of their families and friends. During her second year of graduate school, Vanessa discovered, through her internship placement, the joy of providing the much needed counseling and social services to the older adult population and their families. She worked as the director of Social Services at a medical adult day care facility for chronically ill older adults in Camden and then took a position as a grief counselor for Samaritan Hospice, working primarily with bereaved families. After the birth of her son, Vanessa returned to working with adults and older adults with chronic pain and illness at Advantage Therapy Center. Vanessa was responsible for assessing the social service needs of all the clients and provided on-going individual counseling to those who were struggling with mental health issues in addition to their physical health issues. Feeling as though she was becoming more involved in administration and less involved in direct service, Vanessa found a position as a primary therapist in The Hampton Counseling Center's adult intensive outpatient psychiatric program, where she provided group, family, and individual therapy to clients with mental health issues and to dually-diagnosed clients, struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues.

Vanessa started her private practice, Serenity Counseling, in 2008 with business partner, Marlene McDermott. In 2010, Vanessa, her husband and son flew to China to welcome a two year old daugther into their home, making their family complete.

Vanessa and Marlene worked together until 2013, when Marlene relocated to Missouri. Vanessa believes strongly in the services Serenity provides to the community and continues the business on her own. Vanessa moved the office from a rented building in Palmyra to a smaller home office in Cinnaminson to be able to continue to offer the comfortable relaxing atmosphere and affordable services that are expected of Serenity Counseling.

Alyssa Harris, MSW, LSW

Alyssa received her Bachelor of Social Work from Stockton University in 2013, completing two undergraduate internships in both adult and children’s partial care programs with Oaks Integrated Care, a local non-profit agency. Shortly after graduating, Alyssa accepted her first position in the field with the FLEX Program at Oaks Integrated Care, where she provided mentoring services and supervised visitation for children and families in the foster care system. During her three years at Oaks Integrated Care, Alyssa had the pleasure of working in various programs, providing a variety of services to children and families throughout Camden, Gloucester, and Burlington counties, such as in-home supportive services for families new to the fostering process, as well as reunification and counseling services to children and families exiting the foster care system.

Alyssa decided to further her education in 2015 by pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. During her time as a graduate student, Alyssa completed two graduate-level internships — one with Heartland Hospice - HCR Manor Care, providing social assessments, grief counseling, and bereavement services to clients and their families, as well as a clinical internship at Serenity Counseling where she gained extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families of all ages and backgrounds. Upon graduating with her Master of Social Work in 2017, Alyssa accepted a position with Serenity Counseling and has continued to further her work and experience with adults, teens, and children. Alyssa is passionate about helping couples develop more positive relationship dynamics and re-establish a sense of connectedness. In her work, she often draws from Emotionally Focused and Compassion Focused Therapies.

In addition to her previously mentioned experience, Alyssa has also worked as a Behavioral Assistant for Greater New Jersey Creative Counseling, providing in-home and in-community behavioral services to children and families throughout the state of New Jersey, as well as experience in higher education as a Disability Support Coordinator for Rowan College at Burlington County, where she worked closely with college students struggling with mental, physical, and emotional differences.

Alyssa believes that empathy, honesty, and compassion are essential to fostering a strong therapeutic relationship and commits to practicing all three as a therapist. She works closely with all of her clients to help them feel comfortable and confident in their self expression. Alyssa currently resides in Mount Laurel with her fiancé, Kyle, and their two Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Rosie and Ruby.
